Instagram has been in the news after the reports of abusive comments and language faced by Black players of the England football team. The news came after the defeat of England’s soccer team in the Euro Cup final of 2020.
After their defeat in the final, several black players faced racist comments over their bad performance. After all these incidents, the photo-sharing app was facing backlash for not stopping abusive as well as racist content.
Therefore, Instagram has decided to launch a feature – limit that will prevent users to stop abusive comments and messages whom they don’t follow or even recently follow.
Instagram Limit Feature
After turning on the feature of the limit will result in receiving abusive DMs and comments from anyone who doesn’t follow you or recently started following you. At the time of writing, this feature has been launched around the globe and you can also use it if you’re facing abusive messages and comments from others.
This update could be useful to many businesses and content creators that receive plenty of replies on their stories and posts, Instagram claimed. On the other hand, this feature is also helpful for those who want to engage with their audience in a positive way.
In addition to this, the Facebook-owned social media platform is finding other ways to tell its users to turn on this feature before any negative comment. This means the AI system within the app will detect the spike activity and tell the users to turn this feature on.
Prior to this update, Instagram already launched its hidden words features in April. The hidden words feature automatically filters DMs with offensive or abusive words, phrases, and emojis. But after the recent update, the “hidden words feature” has been further upgraded.
As a result, it has added more abusive words, phrases, emojis, and hashtags to its listings. Interestingly, you can also add words of your own choice other than by default. Last but not the least, Instagram is also warning people who will try to post some abusive or racist content, comment, or post.
To recall, a similar message or pop-up appeared in the past when someone tried to post something multiple times.
