Xiaomi teases a new 48MP Redmi phone while announcing Redmi as a sub-brand

In December, 2018, Xiaomi President, Lin Bin teased a smartphone with 48MP Camera. He also said, the phone will release in January. Now, on their official website, Mi teased a Redmi phone with 48MP Camera. The teaser also informed that Redmi will be Xiaomi’s sub-brand now.

Redmi phone with 48MP Camera?

The official page at Mi.com right now has the following image:-

As you can see, the word ‘Redmi’ casts a shadow which roughly reads “4800”. This is where things get confusing. The 4800 could actually mean a 4800 mAh Battery.

But, my bet would be on the 48MP Camera instead. This is mainly because Lin Bin already teased a 48MP Camera equipped phone expected to release in January. Moreover, a 4800 mAh Battery isn’t a huge thing to tease in 2019.

Anyways, we’ll find out on 10th January, 2019 at 2PM. Whatever Xiaomi wishes to unveil will take place on the day in Beijing, China.

Redmi is Xiaomi’s sub-brand now!

The Chinese text in the banner just above the date of the launch announces Redmi to be a sub-brand now. So, upcoming Redmi phones might not have Xiaomi or Mi logo. Instead, it might only bear a new Redmi logo.

For those who are confused what a sub-brand is, here’s a example. Realme is actually a sub-brand of OPPO. But, you don’t say, OPPO Realme U1; you call it Realme U1. Similarly, Xiaomi Redmi 7, for example, will be called Redmi 7.

Conclusion

With Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, In-Screen Camera and more, 2019 looks bright for smartphones. 48MP Camera is not something new to smartphones. But, in 2019, we can expect a lot from a 48MP Camera on a smartphone this year. We’ll know more on 20th January, 2019.
