Xiaomi’s Beijing event today had two highlights. One, as we know, the announcement of Redmi as an independent sub-brand. The other being a Redmi phone with 48MP Camera. At the Beijing event, Xiaomi announced Redmi Note 7 with 48MP Dual Camera, Snapdragon 660 at just $150 (Rs. 10,000/999 Yuan).
Thanks to a few leaks, we already knew such a phone was coming. Redmi Note 7 was spotted on Geekbench just a few days ago. And, only two days ago, Lei Jun shared official images of a “new Redmi phone.”
Redmi Note 7 Specs
Here’s a quick look at the specs of Redmi Note 7:-

- 13MP AI Front Camera
- 6.3″ FHD+ Display (19.5:9 Aspect Ratio) with Waterdrop Notch

- ROM – 32GB/64GB

Redmi Note 7 Price
- 3GB/32GB – 999 Yuan ($150/Rs. 10,000)
- 4GB/64GB – 1199 Yuan ($180/Rs. 12,000)
- 6GB/64GB – 1399 Yuan ($200/Rs. 14,500)
For now, there isn’t a variant with 128GB internal storage. You can pre-order Redmi Note 7 on Mi Store right now. You may also pay 10 Yuan to get the 18W charger for the phone.
The pricing is pretty attractive and extremely affordable, given the phone has a 48MP Camera! We expect the phone to come soon to India. In the past, Xiaomi’s phones have been very similarly priced, both in India and China. We expect the same trend to follow with Redmi Note 7 too. I am not sure though if Xiaomi will honour 18 months of warranty in India too.
Xiaomi made it clear that, starting today, Redmi as a sub-brand will focus on making affordable smartphones. Xiaomi series phones, though will be more towards the mid to high end, as always.
Redmi Note 7 Colours
The phone is available in 3 colours as we already saw in the recently shared official images. Here are the colours:-
- Dream Blue
- Bright Black
- Twilight Gold
The back of the Redmi Note 7 phones seem to have a nice gradient. This is especially clear with the Twilight Gold variant. This variant is a mixture of Purple and Red.
Redmi Note 7 Pro
At the Beijing event, Xiaomi also talked about a Redmi Note 7 Pro. The higher end phone will launch with a 48MP Sony IMX 586 sensor around Chinese New Year (February 2019).
We weren’t satisfied with the Geekbench scores of the phone, when compared to SD660 rivals like Asus Zenfone Pro M2. But, the pricing of Redmi Note 7 is definitely extremely competitive. We, in India will be waiting for the phone to launch here to test out the 48MP Camera alone. As for the Camera, I am also excited about the Pixel 3 Lite.
