Last year after United States sanctions, Huawei was banned to use Google Services on their devices. The giant tech company Huawei developed their own operating system named it HarmonyOS last year. The HarmonyOS was first fetched into Smart TVs and Smart Watches. This operating system has been upgraded to HarmonyOS 2.0 today in the Huawei Developers Conference and was announced by CEO Richard Yu.

The CEO revealed that the Huawei smartphones will be run by the new HarmonyOS next year. This might be possible to see the new HarmonyOS in the Huawei top-notch model, the Huawei P50. This can be Huawei’s first-ever smartphone to run HarmonyOS. The older HarmonyOS was limited to only Smart TVs, Smart Watches and car head units. While the new HarmonyOS 2.0 SDK will be available starting today for smartwatches, smart tv’s and car head units, and for the smartphones, it will be released later this year.

As this was the first-ever operating system developed by Huawei, there could be a lot of challenges but Huawei has all set to go. They have also released an OpenHarmony project similar to the Andriod Open source project. This Open-source Harmony will be available for developers soon and it can run on very low-end devices having at least 128MB of Ram and later on it could be increased to 4GB. It may be possible to remove the open source Harmony limit later in April 2021.
